Hunger is the world's worst pandemic. Since the global pandemic hit, nations
around the world have urged us not to forget that hunger poses a bigger
risk to them than the coronavirus.
It is a fundamental right of everyone to be free from hunger - to have
physical and economic access to adequate food.
Yet an estimated 821 million people around the world, many of whom are
children, go to bed hungry every single night.
An estimated 14 million children under the age of five worldwide suffer
from severe acute malnutrition, also known as severe wasting, yet only
25 percent of severely malnourished children have access to lifesaving
treatment.
Small farmers, herders, and fishermen produce about 70 percent of the
global food supply, yet they are especially vulnerable to food insecurity
– poverty and hunger are most acute among rural populations.
This is unfair - but it is also ENTIRELY preventable.
